What do you eat on movie night? Delivery Pizza is a classic choice. Popcorn, of course! Candy and Soda?
This menu is fully inspired by a classic dinner and a movie line up, but with a bit of a plot twist. Pizza soup has all the flavor of delivery, but with about a thousand less calories. Kids love it with gooey slurps of cheese, and the surprise of a soup that tastes like pizza. Follow up with a cupcake that looks like popcorn, but tastes like vanilla marshmallow!
Pizza Soup is best made like french onion soup with cheese covered toast broiled on top. Try that version too, but at Best Movie Box Ever, we get out of the kitchen ASAP so we could get on with the show!
Pizza Soup Recipe
Pizza Soup Ingredients (Wow, that looks like a lot. Promise this is easy!)
Pizza Soup Directions
Preheat oven to breadstick directions.
Brown the ground beef and onion together. *Side Note: We buy a 3lb pack of ground beef when it is on super sale, cook it all, and freeze it in 1/2 lb portions. This becomes a 15 minute recipe in the evening. Defrost it in the morning, and skip to the second step.
Use the olive oil to saute mushrooms and garlic in a large stock pot.
Sprinkle mushrooms with italian seasoning, and let it adhere.
Drop in mini pepperoni and sliced black olives. Add diced tomatoes in juice and beef broth. Season with salt & pepper and half the basil to taste.
Bring to a boil. Turn down to a simmer for 5 - 10 minutes.
While soup is simmering, bake the breadsticks or texas toast.
Ladle soup into individual bowls. Top with mozzarella. We love fresh mozzarella in a ball shape, sliced. There are plenty of times only shredded mozzarella works in the budget, and that works fine. For an extra fancy effect, broil for a minute until cheese bubbles and top with shredded basil.
Popcorn Cupcakes (We don't call ours a pinterest fail...just pinterest fun!)
Popcorn Cupcake Supplies
Popcorn Cupcake Directions
Bake cupcakes according to box directions. Use a light-colored, preferably white baking cups or silicone cups. Allow to cool completely.
A no-mess option is purchasing the cupcakes already baked. Scrape the frosting off the top. Sorry, but it would melt during the broiling stage!
Clip about half of the marshmallows in random depths and placements.
Preheat the oven broiler. Brush cupcake top with cornsyrup and place marshmallows randomly all over the top, covering as much cake as possible.
Place six marshmallow topped cupcakes on a baking sheet and put under the broiler for just a few seconds, only enough to slightly brown.
Pop cupcakes into the holder, and surprise your movie-night patrons!
Try a classic movie star, Roy Rogers with this menu!
